discovery of a Glendale drophouse and the arrests of two men suspected of human smuggling, the Department of Public Safety said. Two men stopped by Phoenix police Tuesday for undisclosed traffic reasons told authorities they were involved with transferring illegal immigrants in and out of a drophouse at 91st Avenue and Ocotillo Road, DPS spokesman Bart Graves said. A search warrant was served for the Glendale house around 7 a. m.
Wednesday. Inside the house, 11 men suspected to be illegal immigrants were waiting to be taken across the country, Graves said. The group told officers they were paid $2,300 each to be smuggled into the country. The two suspected smugglers were arrested.
The 11 immigrants will be turned over to U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Graves said the Glendale drophouse was atypical of most Arizona drophouses.
The victims were treated well, fed and appeared to have new clothes, he said. They were allowed to move about the house, rather than being kept in boarded-up rooms. No weapons were found inside the house. "There are a number of different cartels
